Extra Time Coaching

Girls’ Football Coaching FAQs

Answers about our Bingley Development Centre, age groups, coaching approach, safeguarding, session costs and how to enquire.

These answers relate to Extra Time Coaching’s current U12–U15 girls’ football development sessions at Beckfoot School in Bingley. For session availability or a question not covered here, please contact us.

Who is this for?
We are currently offering small group focused development sessions for U12-U15 girls.
My son or older/younger daughter is looking for extra training. Is this something you offer?
At the moment, we have a development group for U12-U15 girls. If there is enough interest, we could also run additional sessions for boys, mixed groups or different age groups. Please get in touch to register your interest and find out what options may be available. We also offer 1-to-1 training sessions.
Are you an academy or competitive team?
No. Extra Time Coaching is an independent player development centre, not an academy or competitive football team. We do not select players to form a team, organise competitive fixtures or recruit players away from their existing grassroots clubs. Players can continue playing for their own grassroots club while using Extra Time Coaching for additional individual development.
Is Extra Time Coaching linked to a grassroots football club?
Extra Time Coaching is independent and is not affiliated with or operated by any particular grassroots football club. Players from any grassroots club are welcome to attend our sessions. We provide additional football development alongside players' existing grassroots football.
Does joining Extra Time Coaching affect my child's existing club?
No. Joining Extra Time Coaching does not affect your child's eligibility to play for their existing grassroots club. We do not recruit players to form a competitive team, organise fixtures or play matches against other clubs. Our sessions are designed to complement the football players already receive with their grassroots team.
How is Extra Time Coaching different from normal grassroots training?
Extra Time Coaching is designed to complement, rather than replace, grassroots football. A grassroots team may have 15–25 players at a training session, with the coach needing to develop the group as a whole, work on team organisation and prepare players to compete against opposition. Our sessions are different because we don't have a team to organise or prepare for a fixture. This allows us to concentrate on the individual player, giving players more opportunities to work on their technique, decision making, confidence and specific areas for development. The aim is for players to take what they develop with us back into their grassroots team and become better, more confident players within that team environment.
Are you qualified?
Yes. We are a 1 star FA accredited club, which means that all of our players are insured and coaches are qualified and DBS checked.
How big are the groups?
Groups are limited to 10 places. This is in-line with NSPCC recommendations for child to adult ratios and helps ensure that every player gets the time and attention that their development requires.
What happens in a typical session?
A typical session is focused around what the players attending need. Although we have a core syllabus covering passing, movement, ball control, strength and shielding, 1v1s, striking and defending, the benefit of small group sessions is that we can adapt the session to the players. If there is an area that the group needs more work on, we can spend extra time on it, while players can also bring specific areas they would like to improve and, where appropriate, we can build these into the session.
Can my child work on a specific area they want to improve?
Yes. One of the benefits of a small group is that players can raise specific areas of their game that they want to improve. Where appropriate, these can be incorporated into the session alongside the core development syllabus.
Will my child get plenty of time on the ball?
Yes. Keeping groups small means players get plenty of opportunities to be involved, repeat technical actions and receive coaching feedback during sessions.
What level does my child need to be?
These sessions are intended to provide additional training alongside grassroots football. As such, a level of experience and skill is expected. These are not beginners' sessions.
Does this replace normal club training?
No. Extra Time Coaching is intended to complement a player's existing grassroots football, not replace it. Grassroots football provides an important team environment where players learn to work with teammates, understand tactics and compete against opposition. Our role is different: we focus on developing the individual player and giving them additional opportunities to work on their technical skills and areas for improvement. Players should continue attending their normal club training and matches alongside our sessions.
How much fitness training is included?
There will be some fitness work and strength work where it fits naturally into the topic. The main focus of the in-season programme is player development and ball work, with dedicated pre-season sessions used for more focused fitness and conditioning.
How much does it cost?
Session costs vary depending on the group, facility hire, location and day, so pricing may differ between programmes. The cost for each current session is confirmed when you enquire or through the relevant Spond group.
What happens if a session is missed or cannot go ahead?
If a session is missed then there is no credit or refund. Session fees are based on the cost of running that particular programme and are designed to cover facilities over the relevant period. If a child cannot attend a session, or a session cannot be held due to unforeseen circumstances, no refunds shall be given. If a session cannot go ahead, we will do our best to find a suitable alternative where possible.
Do you do holiday camps or additional sessions?
Sometimes. Additional sessions for small groups, 1-to-1 training and pre-season fitness can be run during school holidays if there is enough demand. These sessions will be charged separately for those who wish to attend. Enquire about upcoming sessions.
Where and when is it?
Our current girls development centre is every Tuesday, 6-7pm, at Beckfoot School in Bingley.
What do I need to bring?
The sessions are held on 3G artificial turf, so AG boots are recommended, along with appropriate clothing for the weather and a drink.
How do I sign up?
Join the Spond group using the Spond invite link. Session updates and information are shared through the app.
How do I pay?
Payment arrangements vary by programme. For the current development centre, monthly direct debit details are available in the Spond group.
Are you insured?
Yes, we are covered under the West Riding FA Public Liability Scheme and Personal Accident Scheme. Both schemes are provided by Sportsguard (sportsguard.co.uk) and meet the mandatory requirements as prescribed by the Football Association.
Are you DBS checked?
Yes, as an affiliate club all coaches must be qualified and have a clear and up to date DBS check. We also have a club welfare officer and player safeguarding policy.
Do you offer free trials?
Not as a rule, due to the nature of the small groups players are invited based on active membership and there may not be places available within our ratios. However, please get in touch to enquire. If it is possible we will do our best to accommodate.
